A Sony Handycam and iMovie is not the best combination. But it can be done.
First get MPEG Streamclip
go List, bact list -
select the files
Select Export to DV – I do not check any of the other items here, I just click OK.
Select folder
Now comes a LOT of options. If you know the right ones let us know. I use DV25 under compression – I think this is what Sony uses as compression. I use PAL 720×576, 25 fs. because the original material is 25 fs. I use 16:9 aspect ratio.
Then I select Deinterlace video – If this is the right thing to do – Good question. ( http://www.ripdifferent.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4045 ). You can also deinterlace original material when you export from iMovie, I have not tried this. I do this because I got some stripes in the material I uploaded, and I think this is because the movie whas interlaced.
I am still testing – more might follow.
Ok – now we have a bunch of DV files exportet from streamclip.
Open imovie make new project, save it and close imovie!
Now go to the project, right click on it and select “show content of package” , open the folder called media.
drop all the dv movies in that folder.
Open project in imovie, select show content of paper basket. Move the movies from paperbasket and to right boxes – you know where the movies should be.
Phewww your ready to rock and roll.
Vado camera -
The Vado camera makes .AVi files with a Microsoft sound format – and
With iMovie 09 avoid import
