BusinessWeek evaluates brand value on the basis of how much it is likely to earn for the company in the future. It would mean that a company that has a monopoly has a good brand (microsoft), or that a company that is simply good at making money (general electric) has a good brand. There is something a miss here, how can MacDonald, Nike come below HSBC (yes that right – who is HSBC?)
